Served as 2nd and 3rd Division Officer from 5/66-2/68. Homeported Naples and Valetta, Malta. Grew up and learned a great deal about, life, leadership, friends and everything else important. Great friends on the ship and I think of them often. Busy times aboard Sylvania at that time in history: Assist in salvage of USN DD in Rhodes, salvage by helo, Greek helo in greek mountains, visit Menorca and refurbish 1800's USN Med Fleet cemetery, play around the eastern Med as the Greeks and Turks fought it out (twice), Israeli-Egyptian War (Shoot up of the Liberty), nominal change of homeport to Malta when the USSR threatened to open a facility there. visits to nearly 40 ports to show off our new ship and its amazing capabilities, typhoon/hurricane storm inport Naples, similar storm at sea in Feb 68 (?) when we ran from west of Corsica to SE of Athens losing 100+ pallets of flight deck staged material and safety netting along the way. There was a lot more but time to quit. "Tale"

Served in 91 and 92 in Stream DIV. Was young and confused where I wanted to be in life, didn't really give much thought to a career I threw away in the Navy. Anyway was thankful to meet so many good people on board and would do it all over again if I could go back in time. I am very blessed now with a family and kids I hope one day will think about joining for the experience of a lifetime
